SUMMARY:VISIONS IN RETINAL DISEASE – From Genetics to Personalized Medicine
DESCRIPTION:INVITATION \nPREAMBLE \nThe purpose of the symposium is to present a concentrated view on the most recent developments in the genetics of retinal disease\, especially inherited dystrophies\, with focus on patients’ perspective and personalized medicine. New aspects of molecular genetics and cell biology will be covered as well as unsolved problems\, like the “missing heritability”\, such as lack of demonstrable pathogenic variants in a large number of patients\, and\, contrarily\, the presence of two or more “competing” causative genes in a number of patients. New treatment strategies and technologies\, such as how to establish and use stem cells for therapy\, as well as comprehensive genome analysis as an initial preparation for gene therapy trials will be presented. We will finally discuss how research knowledge from inherited eye disease potentially can be generalized to more common diseases of the medical retina. DESCRIPTION:Dear member of Danish Ophthalmological Society\, \nIt is my pleasure to invite you to the DOG 2019\, the 117th congress of our society\, which will take place in Berlin from 26-29 September 2019. “Ophthalmology: Our Field and its Future” is the theme of the congress to be held in the Estrel Hotel in Berlin. \nFor most of us\, ophthalmology is “the most beautiful specialty in medicine”. In addition\, it is also an extremely important\, successful and appreciated medical sub-discipline whose supply mandate keeps growing steadily. DESCRIPTION:We would like to inform the members of Danish Ophthalmological Society about an upcoming international congress on Ocular Blood Flow (OBF) in September. We would be pleased if members of the Danish Ophthalmological Society would join us at the summit.  \nOBF not only plays a key role in many eye diseases but also reflects the general vascular health of a patient. DESCRIPTION:Dear NOSOPRS Friends \nIt is our great pleasure to invite you all to the seventh meeting of the Nordic Society of Oculoplastic & Reconstructive Surgery (NOSOPRS) in Copenhagen\, 2019. Having the wonderful meeting in Stockholm in September 2017 in our minds\, we are very much looking forward to seeing you in Copenhagen! \nThe meeting will start with lunch on Thursday 2 May and end at 12 o’clock on Friday 3 May. \nVenue\nThe meeting will be held at the brand new Hotel Ottilia\, Pasteurvej 4\, 1778 Copenhagen V. \nHotel Ottilia \nProgramme\nThis time we will try to make a slightly different meeting – less formal and less cathedral. \nThe meeting will focus on your clinical experiences\, ups and perhaps downs. We hope that you all will contribute to the pile of knowledge and exchange skills and experiences. In fact\, we expect all participants to contribute with at least one subject for discussion in a smaller group. \nWe have the pleasure of having Suzanne Freitag as our special guest. Suzanne is Chief-Editor of Orbit\, the official journal of the European Society of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Society and the Director of the Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Service at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear. Suzanne has a special interest in sebaceous gland carcinomas\, which will be a main topic for the meeting. Director of the Dutch Expertise Center for Neuro-ophthalmology. \nDr. Jonathan M. Holmes is the Joseph E. and Rose Marie Green Professor of Visual Sciences and Professor of Ophthalmology at Mayo Clinic\, Rochester MN.  Dr. Holmes’ clinical practice focuses on the surgical and nonsurgical management of complex strabismus in both children and adults\, and in pediatric ophthalmology with a special interest in amblyopia.  Dr. Holmes is currently Co-Chair of the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group\, directing multicenter randomized clinical trials and observational studies\, in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. \nDr. David Hunter is Ophthalmologist-in-Chief at Boston Children’s Hospital\, Professor & Vice Chair of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School\, and President of the Children’s Hospital Ophthalmology Foundation. He is also co-founder of Rebion\, Inc.\, developer of the ”blinq\,” amblyopia detection device and the BabySee iPhone app. \nDr. Bita Esmaeli is Professor of Ophthalmology in the Department of Plastic Surgery at The University of Texas M. D.
